Staying true to the phrase ‘the land of opportunities’, this week’s SmackDown Live offered its stage to the Heart of 205 Live, Mustafa Ali. The superstar of Pakistani heritage made his blue brand debut by interrupting the current WWE Champion ‘The New’ Daniel Bryan while he was ranting about the “fickle” audience hell bent on mindless consumption and ruining the environment.
The ‘first ever’ match between the two was officially announced at the start of the show but both stars spoke harsh words before the match. Ali called out Bryan for changing and reminded him how the entire 205 Live roster looked up to him. The champ, on the other hand, criticized Ali for being “a small, little man” and yet driving an SUV. He proceeded to slap the cruiserweight superstar multiple times to eventually begin the match.
While Ali didn’t succeed in putting away Bryan and pinning him for the 1-2-3, the match unsurprisingly delivered. The two stars pushed each other to the limit with the infamous ‘Yes’ kicks, super kicks, Spanish Flies and what not. Nothing was off the table, but in the end, Bryan’s sneaky ways and repeated attacks to Ali’s leg, allowed him to tap the 205 Live star out.
Bryan’s new villainous environmentalist persona combined with his unparalleled striking, mat game and submission skills are surely giving him an edge. His win over Ali also gave him a much-needed momentum before his WWE Championship defense against AJ Styles this Sunday at WWE TLC pay-per-view.
However, nothing should be taken away from Ali who consistently impresses the audience every time he steps into the ring. His bouts against the likes of Hideo Itami, Cedric Alexander and current WWE Cruiserweight Champion have solidified him as one of 205 Live’s absolute elite competitor. And even in his loss against Bryan, he still proved he is what he says he is: The Heart of 205 Live.
